Are these eccentric readings of the Chopin mazurkas interesting? Yes, they are. Are they good? I can’t be sure.

With imaginatively chosen couplings, this strong performance of Dvořák's Symphony No. 8 is well worth hearing.

As a first recording of the two oratorios one could feel satisfied with Gönnenwein but others are to be preferred.

This newcomer has much to commend it.

Elegance, wistfulness, folk influences, memorable melodies, minor keys and a lack of pretentiousness. 

Nicholas JACKSON (b. 1934) Mass for a Saint’s Day, Requiem and other choral works Soloists; David Goode/Jeremy Filsell (organ) The Rodolfus Choir/Ralph Allwood rec. 2006/07 NAXOS 8.570959 [75:50] [JQ]

Nicholas Jackson’s liturgical music is impressive and it’s been splendidly served here.

Clara Rodríguez’s Lecuona selection is as fine as anyone’s.

A welcome release although the interpretation falls short of fully exploring the oratorio's dramatic character.
