A disappointing disc containing unremarkable orchestral music from the pre-classical period.
Carlos SEIXAS (1704-1742) Harpsichord Sonatas
A very attractive disc of short harpsichord works by a little-known 18th century Portuguese composer.
Johann STRAUSS (1825-1899) Die Fledermaus Operetta in Three Acts sung in English. Recorded at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, New Year's Eve 1990 on the occasion of Joan Sutherland's farewell performance.
A magical souvenir of a sparkling evening. A splendid, sumptuous performance of Johann Strauss's evergreen operetta, with so many memorable, extra treats. Don't miss this one!

Tommaso TRAETTA Antigona
This release will not disappoint collectors of rare baroque opera. To sample Antigona at its best, try the first scene of Act 2, in which the grieving Antigone conducts a forbidden funeral ceremony for her brother, supported by a chorus of her loyal serving maids.

Butterworth: Banks of Green WillowA wonderful surprise from Chandos - one of those unexpected artistic coups which from time to time makes record collecting such an adventure and a joy.
Gheorghiu relaxed in her singing and her characterisation was subtle and detailed throughout, under Richard Eyre's traditional, but carefully observed, own operatic debut.
VERDI Requiem (Live recording from Edinburgh Festival, 1982)
A DVD that listeners will return to again and again for a performance that ranks amongst the very greatest ever committed to disc. It cannot fail to give pleasure.

A most interesting disc of unfamiliar repertory which is well worth exploring
WALTON: Façade (the complete extant numbers). CONSTANT LAMBERT: Suite from the incidental music to Salome.
Under the able direction of David Lloyd-Jones, is well worth considering. It comes in a handsome casing, with John Piper's 1942 curtain design on the cover. One should not, however, overlook Pamela Hunter's 'complete version' (Discover DICD 920125). Available in some places at super-budget price ($6)
WOLF Mörike Lieder; Goethe Lieder
A super disc with some very lovely performances that I will treasure.
WOLF-FERRARI (1876-1948) Sly
A gutsy, live recording of an old-fashioned but durable tragic opera, which balances to perfection story and music. José Carreras's last act monologue is a tour de force amongst self revelatory solo scenes in opera.
