Before his retirement, Ian was a professional public relations consultant . He has been a collector of recordings since the early 1950s and a reviewer and writer about music since the early 1980s (first of all for the British Music Society).

He has reviewed Classical Music Recordings for:
BBC Music Magazine (every month throughout the 1990s)
Classic CD (many months when it was published)
Fanfare (leading American classical music recordings magazine)
and has contributed reviews and articles to:

and writes and reviews regularly for
MusicWeb International

Specialities: British, French and Italian music late 19th Century and 20th Century. Original film scores
He has written many articles for composer web pages on the Internet (i.e. - Elgar, Bax, Holst, Ireland and Eric Coates, Walton and Respighi). He has interviewed such artists as Murray Perahia and Daniel Levy (pianists) and conductors David Lloyd Jones, Matthias Bamert, Richard Hickox and violinist Tasmin Little.
As a Broadcaster he has devised and produced programmes on British Music for regional radio. Three radio programmes were devised, written and produced for BBC Radio Sussex each of a half hour duration on the work of Sir Arnold Bax, John Ireland and Eric Coates in Sussex. Ian has been interviewed on radio on numerous occasions about music associated with Sussex. He was also a Reporter/Reviewer for Festival FM radio covering the Brighton Festival 1996. He appeared on BBC TV’s ‘One Show’ in a segment about Eric Coates’s London music
Lectures and Pre-Concert Talks have been written and presented to local and national societies all over the UK and in America. He has also given pre-concert talks at The Hawth Concert Hall, Crawley, for the Guildford Philharmonic and Music at Beaulieu etc. He has led Classical music courses for Holiday Fellowship, the WEA and the Earnley Concourse.
Concert Programme Notes have been written for London and Provincial orchestras including the Sinfonia of Westminster, the former Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra and Basel Sinfonietta (Switzerland) etc
Ian has held offices as:
Former Chairman of the International Subcomittee and Publicity Officer: The Elgar Society.
A Founder Member and a former committee member of The British Music Society. (He is also a keen member of the Delius Society)

AWARD TO IAN LACE FOR CHAMPIONING BRITISH MUSIC
‘Ian Lace who has contributed articles to many classical music web sites was awarded a Certificate of Excellence, last night, at the Institute of Public Relations 50th Anniversary Sword of Excellence Awards Dinner held at London's prestigious Hotel Inter-Continental.
Of the entry, the judges commented: "There is little doubt that Ian Lace has had a major impact on the promotion of British music. A wholly self-funded campaign run with passion. With no budget Ian has achieved outstanding results which are a credit to both the PR profession and the British music industry."
Over 150 entries for the competition came from major blue chip companies and large and small PR consultancies based in London and throughout the UK. Awards were made to 28 of these entries spread over 10 categories.’
