I did not enjoy every single track but on the whole it is an impressive series of performances that explore a huge variety of music. Essential listening for all brass band enthusiasts.

The visit to a glass factory is a little different from the usual fare in this series and none the worse for it.

An exceptional bassist encompasses the wildly differing demands of this repertoire.

Some fascinating Elgar here and Boult brings a real virility to these readings.

Sung with artistry, tonal allure and without mannerism of any kind.

A good guide, though performances perhaps rather too subdued.
