CANTUS C9804/6 [190.35]An excellent set of the works of Guillaume de Machaut, performed admirably by one of the best ensembles for this type of music. At a three-for-two price, you can't go wrong with this set.

Moyzes is well advocated by this disc. You are very unlikely to be disappointed if you are at all sympathetic to folk-impressionism.

This music gives much pleasure, and should appeal to anyone who enjoys baroque suites and concertos.

Of the two performances paired here, it is Arkady Sevidov playing the piano original which is the more successful. The Arte Nova recording gives a richly ambient acoustic for the music

ARTHAUS MUSIK 100 200 (16:9 DVD) [134.00] [KM]
This is a very good DVD of the ENO Fairy Queen. The production is noteworthy. In spite of the lighting, which can be a bit dim, this is a fine disc. Heartily recommended for lovers of baroque opera and, of course, Purcell.

This is a well recorded competitive entry into the field of a major Russian choral work.
