CHANDOS BRIT 0014
[75.55]. Bargain Price
Crotchet

What a mixture. Chandos has this year very cleverly released this sampler disc at the same time as the Brits Awards, thus probably leading potential buyers hopefully into thinking that this is a disc summarising the Awards ceremony. Nothing could be further from the truth, but it is clever marketing never the less.

The disc is nothing more than a complilation taken from Chandos's magnificent catalogue of British music of bits and pieces assembled in no formal order. On top of that, Chandos is expecting the buyer to pay for this - in past years similar discs have been supplied free, attached to the front of magazines.

Given that the recording quality is superb in all excerpts, and the performances likewise, many of them award winners, this issue is a bit of a shame. I cannot see why we should be expected to pay for this, which is after all an advertisement for their discs. It all seems to be a bit of a con.

            • zzzzSummary A collection of bits and pieces superbly recorded and performed advertising Chandos's catalogue of British Music. Formerly supplied as a free disc attached to magazine fronts. This issue should be so supplied and not charged for.
