"Family Affair" is taken from an unreleased Hutcherson
session. Other songs from the session: "Brother Rap" (see Blue
Juice, Volume 2) and "Brown-Eyed Woman."
Commentary
Bobby's playing here leaps out; it's as soulful and alive as ever.
But he has to cut his way through the slick, overdone production, which
mars the final result. I can understand why Hutch elected to keep this
one in the can. (It has nothing to do with his playing.) The best tracks
on the compilation are Big John Patton's version of the Meters' "Cissy
Strut" and Richard Groove Holmes' churning "Down Home Funk."
