Commentary
In the early 60's, when he came to New York City, Hutcherson was a member of band co-led by two former Basie-ites, Al Grey and Billy Mitchell. Verve recently reissued Mitchell's solo album This is Billy Mitchell, originally issued on the Smash label. It's a good record. Nothing revolutionary; just solid, swinging jazz.

As the title implies, this recording features Mitchell front-and-center. Hutcherson's contribution is mostly as a supporting ensemble player. Bobby does solo on four tracks, and he has an opportunity to stretch out a little on two of them, "Automation" and "Siam."

Moderate sparks, but nothing explosive here.
