Unfortunately this record
got into the wrong sector as there is in fact
no jazz content!
It is not without interest
however, Stanley Wilson sounds to me like
the kind of singer associated with classic
musical shows. A sort of latter day Fred Astaire!
All the famous composers liked Fred’s singing,
because he sang all their songs in the way
they intended.
Another item of interest
is that Stanley’s clear diction makes it possible
to appreciate what a brilliant songwriter
Cole Porter was. The arrangements by Ben Cook
are neat and they are well played throughout
by his ensemble, with Dave Whitney doing quite
a nice ‘Bix’ impression on Let’s Misbehave.
Why Night and Day is sung
in French, when the rest of the album is in
English, I did not understand!
The lyrics Cole Porter wrote
are brilliant throughout, the world would
be a much sadder place without the work of
Cole Porter.
