Bobby Hutcherson - Vibes
Renee Rosnes- Piano
Dwayne Burno - Bass
Al Foster - Drums

What a relief an album of great standards played by a group of excellent musicians playing in a really beautiful and appealing way! Bobby Hutcherson is a wonderfully melodic vibes player, capably of subtle and interesting improvisations, a feat which can only really be achieved by the great jazz masters.

The whole group are up to the same high standard ,Renee Rosnes’s piano playing is totally sympathetic to the leaders vibes playing and Dwayne Burno and Al Foster play their parts to perfection.

The programme has some excellent tunes by some of the best ever composers, why so many groups beat themselves to death on original compositions that most people could not even whistle let alone play, I don‘t know.

Because these guys play good tunes it does not in the least limit the range of emotions that their playing express. Hutcherson and Rosnes both play long lines, phrases that build on each other but within a framework of jazz which the listener can understand and appreciate. Being clever for the sake of it is just not them.

If you buy one album this month, buy this one, I recommend it without reservation!
