Terry Lightfoot’s Band made
it’s recording debut in 1956, but these recordings
come from in the 1960’s. Terry has always
had a remarkable skill in putting together
good bands, almost regardless of who he used
as sidemen. This has continued right up to
date where Terry’s band is still heard regularly
up and down the UK and still produces high
quality performances. The New Orleans Jazzmen
is something of a misnomer, as the band really
plays much more in the Dixieland or Chicago
style. The emphasis with Terry is always on
entertainment in conjunction with good music,
a recipe for success with most bands. There
has always been band’s about that were high
on entertainment but low in musical quality
and vice versa, Terry always manages to get
things just right
The tunes are mostly from
the classic trad band library with one or
two originals and items like True Love, which
was produced when trad was ‘pop’. From today’s
perspective it is hard to believe that there
was such an era!
This is happy foot tapping music from a band
that knew what they were doing and sounded
like they were enjoying doing it.
