Sean Jones will not, I am sure, be well known to most readers of these reviews but you can be certain that you will be hearing more of this brilliant 26 year old trumpet man from Warren, Ohio. He is currently teaching at Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University, but he is also lead trumpet with the Lincoln Centre Orchestra which is directed by Wynton Marsalis. He earned his degree in classical trumpet performance at Youngstown University and has since gained a masters degree from Rutgers University.

He has gained experience with the bands of Chico O’Farrill, Gerald Wilson, Illinois Jacquet, Joe Lovano, Tom Harrell, Jon Faddis, Jimmy Heath and Frank Foster, which explains why for some one so young he is already the ‘real deal’ as a jazz trumpet player.

On this record he has assembled a very talented team of musicians to work with, everyone’s performance is top class, but Mulgrew Miller on piano is exceptional throughout. There is also some fine solo work from Tia Fuller on Alto Sax & Flute.

Although the information given does not say as much, I assume the material is all written by Jones as well and he has certainly produced an interesting portfolio of music. Personally I would have liked to hear him play the odd jazz standard, but that’s just me!

Look out for Sean Jones he will be a very big name in the near future, why not start by buying this album?
