Mark Stringer - Piano

An ambitious project from Mark who as well as playing solo piano on CD1, composed the music for CD2 and painted the background for the CD sleeve.

I must confess total ignorance of Mark and his work, what I gather from the sleeve and I quote "While in NYC during the Spring of 2004. I spent some time performing and composing. Inspired by the rhythm, mood and energy of the city, I started to add some jazz standards into my performances and this encouraged me to record not only my own work called ETA NYC, but a whole CD of standards as well.

There is a direct connection between my approach to both CD's, particularly the way in which the music has, in places, a very strong rhythmic drive which suggests a layering of other sounds alongside the piano."

I gather from this that Mark is not fundamentally a jazz pianist and his obvious technical ability suggests a classical background. That being said I do not feel qualified to comment further on his work, which has masses of technique but little or no jazz content.
