How I wish my French was
good enough to know more about this fascinating
music. It is a really worthwhile way to spend
an hour listening to it, whether it should
be in the jazz department is debatable because
most of the music is expertly scored and beautifully
played and sung by an exceptional set of musicians
and singers.
There is some nice jazz passages
from Andy Sheppard (particularly track 13)
and bass player Riccardo Del Fra, but they
are quite minor in what is a really a modern
operetta, by composer Jean- Marie Machado.
The use of dynamics, tempo changes and rhythmic
patterns with various voicings are very stimulating
and add up to a very worthwhile piece of new
music
It is also very interesting
to note how the jazz musicians manage to integrate
themselves into the work to add to the value
of the whole piece.
If you would like to hear
something that dares to be different, with
jazz overtones, you will enjoy this.
I did!
