American born Paul Gambaccini, now domiciled in the UK, has a remarkable knowledge of music both in the popular and classical fields. He was co-author of ‘The Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles’ and is a regular broadcaster for BBC Radio 1 as well as presenting ‘America’s Greatest Hits’ on Radio 2 and ‘Classic Countdown’ on Classic FM.

The Paul Gambaccini Collection is a double CD set and in his words, ‘The musical masterpieces contained in the grooves of these two CDs generally are my all-time favourite jazz recordings.’ They represent what has ‘turned him on’ over the last forty years. He makes no apologies for the contrasting mix of artists. His jazz roots go back to his teenage days when he was influenced by Jimmy Smith whose ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ is featured here. Since then he has kept pace with the ever changing music scene and doesn’t forget to pay tribute to the young British artists that have recently emerged such as Jamie Callum, who plays and sings on ‘All At Sea’ and Clare Teal with her rendition of ‘The Road Less Travelled.’

This compilation covers a vast variety of popular music and even though it is Gambaccini’s personal choice it will I am sure attract a large amount of interest.
