Dinah Shore would be the American equivalent of Dame Vera Lynn; both ladies entertained the troops and became forces favourites. These recordings were made between 40 and 45, the wartime period. Recently whilst reviewing a Rosemary Clooney record, I said that she was not a jazz singer, but she had the feel of a jazz singer about her work. For those people who don't like that jazz feel and there are plenty, then Dinah shore is the singer for you.

The songs are all quality tunes written by the master craftsmen of the Great American SongBook, so there is no problem there. It is all really a matter of taste, I prefer Rosemary Clooney's RCA release, but I have no doubt others will prefer this one.
