It is unusual for the Leader of a band to be less well known than the sidemen, but that is the case on this record! Lew Del Gatto however deserves much more fame than has so far come his way; he is an excellent Tenor player, with a fine technique, a great tone and lots of original ideas. I shall be looking out for more of his work.

Katewalk the title track is a Del Gatto original that features Joe Cohn (Son of Tenorman Al), on Guitar, another fine musician. The composition has a nice melodic line and the arrangement is good as well.

Lew's arrangement of caravan is up-tempo and exciting; Randy Brecker is as usual on top form with some very Gillespie inspired Trumpet. Steve Turre another musician I very much admire contributes an excellent Bone solo to this one.

Autumn Nocturne is a good showcase for Lew's fine Ballad playing. All the remaining tracks are just as good; I particularly liked Barbados Delight, a duet for Steve and Lew. I always enjoy playing You Don't Know What love Is, I only wish I could play it or for that matter the Tenor Sax as well as Lew Del Gatto.
