HUGH WOOD

born Parbold, Lancashire, England 27 June 1932
                               

His parents were musical. After reading Modern History at New College, Oxford, he went to London in 1954, studying composition under Lloyd Webber, Iain Hamilton and Matyas Seiber. From 1958 to 1967 he gave evening classes at Morley College, and from 1962 to 1965 he taught harmony at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1966 he was appointed Cramb Research Fellow at Glasgow University. He has lectured at Liverpool University and, from 1976, at Churchill College, Cambridge.
