This compilation is a recorded live concert that formed part of the
Flanders Film Festival in October 2000. It has to be said that it is
a very patchy affair – like the curate’s egg, good in parts - the arrangements
are variable and there is more enthusiasm than artistic merit and that
the sound is often less than perfect and not helped by an over-resonant
acoustic. The collection includes dirge-like renderings of Gladiator
music and a joyless Driving Miss Daisy. Much of the music is
slow and elegiac and atmospheric but the odd clumsy intrusion of ill-judged
orchestration spoiling the effect of Rain Man and the ethnic
elements of The Lion King. As one of my colleagues has remarked,
"Zimmer is a master of team effort in the recording studio rather
than on the stage and this proves it."
         Stick to the individual soundtracks.
        Disappointing.
