Carl Stalling we love you! And Broughton certainly seems to be the best of any composer who’s ever been asked or felt inclined to follow in those classic cartoonish steps. Just think of: Baby’s Day Out, Stay Tuned, Harry & The Hendersons, The Rescuers Down Under, or The Monster Squad. Lest we forget, he also oversaw the scoring of the fantastic Tiny Toons series too.

When Disney were adamant about not re-doing anything from Honey, I Shrunk The Kids (since Horner’s pilfering had got them sued), they turned to Broughton for something both brand new yet very familiar. Here then is one of the finest cinematic loony tunes written outside of Warner’s purlieu.

Attempting to cover the breadth of what’s achieved is rather daunting. As you’d expect, the music scurries all over the place at breakneck pace. No cue sits still long enough to be easily categorised. What can be said though is that there’s a lovely family theme, which can appear in scatterbrain style whenever Rick Moranis executes another astounding feat of scientific nincomboobery.

It’s one of Broughton’s all-time favourites. That ought to be all the recommendation you need.
