Christopher Fifield.


Christopher is foremost a conductor but also a writer on music history (Grove, Grove Opera, DNB, Viking Opera Guide, Oxford Companion to Music), the author of two biographies (Bruch - Gollancz 1988 and Hans Richter OUP 1993), one of the contributors to Yale University Press' Wagner in Performance and is in the process of writing a history of the music agents Ibbs & Tillett commissioned by the Tillett Trust and to be published by Ashgate (formerly Scolar) Press.

He writes booklet notes for Philips, EMI, Chandos, cpo etc; was a reviewer for the BBC Music Magazine from its inception until the summer of 1999 and now reviews for Classical Express and the Elgar Society. He has also written book reviews for Gramophone Magazine, the Elgar Society and Wagner Society Newsletters and Classical Music Fortnightly.

His past conducting activities were 3 years Deputy Music Director at Capetown's Opera, 12 years a member of Glyndebourne, 10 years as Director of Music at University College London, 6 years with the Northampton Symphony Orchestra and Central Festival Opera. He is currently Music Director of the Lambeth Orchestra the Jubilate Choir and Chelsea Opera Group as their chorus master, as guest chorus master to Brighton Festival Chorus and the London Symphony Chorus.
