I am a traditionally minded, classically inclined, late vocation English
teacher, who worked in educational publishing before teaching. I am
now a Head of Department in an independent Catholic school. I have had
a passion for opera since I was eighteen and had a brief flirtation
with vocal training in New York in the early 80's. I am reasonably knowledgeable
about the history of recorded opera and the workings of the voice but
love instrumental music, too, and have a special attachment to late
19C/early 20C Romantic composers like Richard Strauss. I am an amateur
graphologist and calligrapher, a Francophone/phile, am generally interested
in languages, and enjoy fine art and literature. I have lived abroad
in Africa and the US, and have travelled a good deal. I am married to
an American and have two sons.
