I am a retired English teacher who was a Head of Department and previously worked in educational publishing. I have had a passion for opera since I was eighteen and had a brief flirtation with vocal training in New York in the early 80's. I am reasonably knowledgeable about the history of recorded opera and the workings of the voice but I love instrumental and choral music, too, and have a special attachment to late 19C/early 20C Romantic composers such as Wagner and Richard Strauss. I am an amateur graphologist, calligrapher, Francophone/phile and generally interested in languages. I enjoy cooking, fine art and literature. I have travelled a good deal and spent some years living in southern Africa and the US, where I met my wife; we have two adult sons. I now live in Thetford and enjoy easy access to the Norfolk countryside and beaches where we can walk our dog, swim and picnic, yet still have relatively easy access to London concerts and operas via the A and M11. I try to keep my ever-burgeoning CD collection under control by regular culls and sometimes review downloads, too; my speciality has been to produce quite extensive surveys of over a hundred operas and a mixture of 25 major vocal, choral and orchestral works, all of which may be found under the "Resources" tab on the MWI Home Page.
