Patrick P.L. Lam

Born in Hong Kong, Patrick holds the A.R.C.T. diplomas for Performers and Teachers from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. He received both his undergraduate and graduate studies in the Life Sciences at the University of Toronto, where his doctoral thesis examines the molecular mechanisms of granule exocytosis in the pancreatic endocrine and exocrine cells. He has a keen interest in the fields of Diabetes and Gastroenterology, in which he is determined to complete a clinician-scientist track in Medicine in order to merge his academic interests, from the bench to bedside. Patrick has also been the recipient of prestigious awards for his work, including those from the American Diabetes Association, American Gastroenterology Association, Canadian Digestive Health Foundation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Hong Kong Medical Association. He has made important scientific contributions in his field with the help of his PhD mentor, Prof. Herbert Y. Gaisano, with publications made available on PubMed.

 

Besides working on the lab bench, Patrick enjoys his pastimes with family and friends Cantonese dim-sum and Anxi’s Tiě Guān Yīn tea has been an indispensable pair. He enjoys a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, while Classical Music has remained a #1 passion of his for many years. He has been a freelance music critic and writer for both local and international publications abroad, where his articles have been quoted by colleagues and organizations, such as the HKPO. He is currently the principal writer at MusicWeb International reporting for both Canada and Hong Kong, respectively.
