Brun's Symphonies recorded by Adriano

The conductor Adriano has just finished recording Brun’s Eighth Symphony with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. He considers it perhaps one of his best recordings and not only as far as Brun is concerned.

"We have managed an incredibly tempered and well-sounding interpretation. You will hear what a different approach is mine, compared to the (historical – excellent) one conducted by the composer."

The composer's historical recording is also on Guild (review).

The work will be coupled with three songs by Othmar Schoeck, orchestrated by Brun.

This means that Adriano has completed the recorded cycle of all ten of Brun's Symphonies. The CD with his Second Symphony (coupled with a powerful Symphonic Prologue) will be issued in March-April 2015 – and the Eighth towards the year-end.

In August Adriano will record his last Brun CD. This will mean that he has recorded ALL of Brun's orchestral works - see here for an article on the project. That disc will include the Cello Concerto, two works for chorus and orchestra and a song-cycle arranged by Adriano for string sextet.

Adriano mentions that he has arranged  a cycle of piano songs by Schoeck and by Wolf (all their "Peregrina" settings) into a single cycle for baritone and string quartet. This has been performed in public twice already. He is on the look-out for an English baritone perform it. "Schoeck was a more talented vocal than symphonic composer. He and Brun were close friends during many years. In the liner notes of the forthcoming CD with Brun’s Second Symphony there will be an extended article about Schoeck and Brun, since this Symphony is dedicated to Schoeck. It was composed at the same time as Schoeck’s Violin Concerto."
