Apparently Julian Bream has now retired from the recording studio, but what he left us in recordings is a body of work so impressive in breadth, not only of repertoire but also of musical understanding and execution that most other guitarists of his and following generations can only stand in awe of it.

It would be interesting to know how Bream regards this compilation from his RCA Victor back catalogue. It comprises a selection exclusively from the sweeter aspects of his recorded output. It is obviously contrived to appeal to that portion of the music listening public who want music that is easy on the ear, relaxing and not too demanding in its appreciation. This is exactly what this disc does and as a business move I am sure RCA have got it right. As an added bonus the disc includes a number of the duet recordings that Bream made with John Williams.

I would not be surprised to see this CD featuring in the Classic FM chart.

However for the more dedicated collector there is nothing here that most would not already have.
