The composer Giornovichi was unknown to me before this CD but it was indeed
a pleasure to listen to finely crafted concertos which although satisfying
are ultimately unmemorable. This American project includes three young violinists
who are quite accomplished soloists and they shape each concerto with loving
care and dedication. The expansive 10th Concerto lasts just over half an
hour and is generally the best work here although nothing much distinguishes
any concerto from the other. In fact the music is constantly uninventive
and sometimes quite studiously boorish in the mould of a never ending Viotti!
The orchestra and conductor are also quite obscure but they play their part
serviceably well. Recording and production are of the highest Arte Nova standards
but I'm afraid that not even the low price would make me buy this one.
