This charmingly nostalgic double album is the ideal companion to the many
millions around the Commonwealth who have always admired this great singer.
It is a varied and very completist set bringing together the more famous
and legendary hits alongside some rarities which make a very welcome resurfacing
and are hopefully here to stay. Indeed, one would be hard pressed to choose
favourites from the fifty-four titles available. However songs like 'We'll
Meet Again', 'The White Cliffs of Dover', 'Travellin' Home' and 'as When
Time Goes by' surely need no introduction, and they have been superbly remastered
this time round. I was extremely impressed by the 1950's recordings, which
exude warmth and display the singer's crooning voice in an extremely beautiful
light. Various orchestras and choruses accompany Dame Vera and of course,
there her collaborations with the Services which retain her close links with
the war effort for which she has remained justly legendary. Definitely an
album not to be missed and hats off to Decca for such wonderful presentation
that really brings the spirit of nostalgia back!
