THOMAS, Ambroise

d Paris, 12 February 1896, aged eighty-four
The son of a composer, he played piano and violin at a very early age. He entered the Paris Conservatory at seventeen and won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1832. In 1868 he became director of the Conservatory.
