ROCHBERG, George
b Paterson, New Jersey, 5 July 1918
After graduating from Montclair State Teachers' College, he studied composition at the Mannes School of Music in New York from 1939 to 1942. He continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania. From 1948 to 1954 he was a member of the faculty of the Curtis Institute, and from 1951 to 1960 was director of publications for a publisher. He became acting chairman of the music department at the University of Pennsylvania, and chairman from 1961 to 1968, and then continued there as professor of composition.
