RESPIGHI, Ottorino

d Rome, 18 April 1936, aged fifty-six
He studied at the Liceo Musicale in Bologna. In 1900 he went to St Petersburg as first violinist in the opera orchestra and while there he took lessons from Rimsky-Korsakov. Up until 1908 his career was that of a violinist; but then he was appointed professor of composition and, in 1923, director, at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He resigned in 1926 in order to write, and died after a long illness.
