PERGOLESI, Giovanni Battista

d Pazzuola, 16 March 1736, aged twenty-six

He entered the Conservatorium dei Poveri di Gesu Cristo in Naples in 1725. He taught at the Conservatorium of the Madonna of Loreto from 1725 to 1728. His compositions earned him the patronage of the Prince of Stigliano. His secular music was a failure; this undermined his health, and he died of tuberculosis.
