MOERAN, Ernest John
b London, 31 December 1894
d Kenmare, Co Kerry, 1 December 1950, aged fifty-five
The son of a Norfolk clergyman, he was educated at Uppingham School, where he learned violin and played in a string quartet. He entered the Royal College of Music in 1913, then served in the Army and was wounded. In 1919 he returned to his old school as music master, and thereafter devoted his life to composing.
