MEALE, Richard Graham
b Sydney, 24 August 1932
He entered the New South Wales Conservatorium at the age of twelve to study piano, though as a composer he is largely self-taught. He worked in the gramophone industry while gaining experience as a pianist and conductor. In 1960 a Ford Foundation grant took him to the University of California for a year. He worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from 1962 to 1969, then became a lecturer at the University of Adelaide. In 1971 he was appointed to the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust.
