KABALEVSKY, Dmitry
b St Petersburg, 30 December 1904
d Moscow, 16 February 1987, aged eighty-three
His family moved to Moscow in 1918 and he entered the Skriabin Music College, subsequently studying at the Moscow Conservatory. He graduated in composition in 1929 and in piano a year later. He has always been very active in the political life of the USSR, and for his labours has received many honours and awards. He is the honorary president of the International Society for Music Education of UNESCO.
