HONEGGER, Arthur
b Le Havre, 10 March 1892
d Paris, 27 November 1955, aged sixty-three
Though he was born in France and spent most of his life there he retained his Swiss citizenship. At the age of eighteen he went to the Zurich Conservatory for two years, his studies being interrupted by military service in 1914. In the 1920s he came under the influence of the group of Paris musicians known as 'Les Six', led by Satie, but soon rejected it. Until World War II he spent his time writing, living during the war in occupied Paris. He died of a heart disease.
