His family moved from Venezuela to Paris when Hahn was three, and took French nationality. At the Paris Conservatory he studied harmony with Dubois and composition with Massenet. His song 'Si mes vers avant des ailes' was composed when he was thirteen. A pianist, conductor and pleasing singer, he composed mainly for the theatre. In 1945 he was appointed director of the Paris Opera.
