COUPERIN, Francois

d Paris, 12 September 1733, aged sixty-four
He was one of a famous musical family. His early study was with his father and uncles. In 1693, aged twenty-five, he was chosen as organist at the Chapel Royal at Versailles by Louis XIV. In 1694 he was appointed Maitre de Clavecin des Enfants de France, and a Lateran Order made him Chevalier. He wrote a book on the art of the clavecin. In 1717 he became Ordinaire de la Musique.
