BOCCHERINI, Luigi
b Lucca, Italy, 19 February 1743
d Madrid, 28 May 1805, aged sixty-two
He came from an artistic family; his father was a cellist and bass-player. Luigi became a concert cellist, and in 1757 went with his father to play in the Court theatre orchestra in Vienna. In 1766 he made an extensive concert tour, mainly to Paris and in 1768 he went to Madrid where, in 1770, he was appointed to the service of the Infante.
