On this disc, guitarist Johannes Tonio Kreusch's programme is for the most part well- trodden ground. Kreusch's own compositions are unfamiliar; similarly Brouwer's "Paisaje Cubano con Campagnas" and "Danza del Altiplano". These two titles have not been recorded to the extent of many of Brouwer's works.
Not surprisingly Kreusch's playing of his own music (presumably as the composer intended) is the saving grace of this recording. However even these outstay their welcome, as do the "guitaristic effects" employed too irritating excess. As for the rest, Kreusch's tempi favour caution and less than dynamic performances. The proceedings are not helped by a tone that I would describe as more heavy than full, making the whole affair rather ponderous. With a playing time of nearly 78 minutes I found it something of a frustrating experience.
In a market were young guitarists such as Jason Vieaux and Ricardo Gallén are producing recordings of vibrant playing and adventurous programming this disc is disappointing.
