[67' 22"].
Prelude and Fugue in G minor BWV 535
Prelude and Fugue in G BWV 550
Prelude and Fugue in A minor BWV 543
Trio in D minor BWV 583
Pastorella in F BWV 590
Chorales BWV 715 - 717, 722 - 724, 729, 734, 739.
This is a splendid disc. The organ is a magnificent instrument with a glorious
range of stops producing in turn exquisite colours and tremendous excitement.
The recorded sound is excellent; amazingly good, in fact.
But all this is countered by the simply perfect playing of Weinberger. This
is how Bach should be played. We have none of the Baroque inhibitions and
fussy silliness but clean, precise, strong performances that are so musical
and logical that one can only admire the great JSB and a really fine organist.
His choice of registration for each piece is expertly judged. The way he
builds the structure for the fugues is so clear that it invokes envy and
jealousy among we lesser organists.
Weinberger is a complete musician. I do not expect to hear Bach played better.
A revelation! There is nothing else I can say!
