Constantin ANTIPOV (1859-?)
It was while looking through a microfilm of the piano scores of Blumenfeld
that I came across the music of Antipov and was struck by the superb quality
of his writing for the piano. In spite of my best efforts, I have been unable
to find any other substantial details of his life.
He was a pupil of Rimsky-Korsakoff who in his "My Musical life", comments
on the laziness of his student. I can only trace his works to Op. 13 after
which there is no listing of his other compositions. He did compose a pedestrian
"Allegro Symphonique" Op. 7 for orchestra, which I have recorded on CD-14,
but the rest of his output was for piano. What his subsequent career was
and where he died remains a mystery.
