News Article: Malcolm Williamson’s Our Man in Havana

Trinity College of Music will present a rare performance of Malcolm Williamson’s first opera, Our Man in Havana.

This three act opera, set against a backdrop of pre-revolutionary Cuba, concerns the improbable man of action, an unsuccessful vacuum cleaner salesman, who becomes entangled in a web of espionage. Written in 1963, to a libretto by Sidney Giliat, the opera is based on Graham Greene’s 1958 novel of the same title and this production marks the centenary of the writer’s birth. The opera was performed at Sadler’s Wells in 1963.

The opera, which forms part of Trinity College’s South American Summer Season, is at Greenwich Theatre from 7 – 10 July 2004. Details from: www.greenwichtheatre.org.uk or box office 020 8858 7755
