This is another one of those compilations the major record companies regularly
trot out comprising excerpts – short pieces or movements from suites, serenades
or concertos etc – clipped from CDs in their catalogues. This one features
artists from Erato one of the Warner Classics companies. If you can get past
the banal cover artwork showing a close-up of a plastic bottle of Evian(?) water
all a-bubble, you will discover that this one is just that bit more interesting
than most for there are a number of unfamiliar yet attractive items in this
collection of quieter, more relaxed music, including Sibelius's elegiac Andante
Festivo, Villa Lobos's catchy Choros No. 1 and Madetoja's evocative, spacious
Open Plain from The Ostrobothnians You might recall one or two items being used
as source music. A glance down the following list should decide your level of
interest.
Be warned there are no notes only a pullout listing these items and pictures
of a few record covers.
