The movie concerns a jewel thief plotting a heist in Cuba but getting distracted by the heart pangs of true love. So that’s the scenario, and around it director Daniel Diaz Torres has worked in the music of Alejandro and Gerardo Garcia. The 14 songs feature lyrics (some by Torres) and interpreted for performance by La Orquestra Mágica de Habana. What any of those lyrics are – this reviewer has no idea!
For an hour and 10 minutes you’ll be swept up by a never-ending foot-tapping beat with all manner of delightful guitar strumming. The consistency in flowing from one track to the other makes for an extremely coherent listening experience. The only thing that really seems to change in between the horn solos are the vocalists.
Soundtrack purists may well find their ears intrigued.
