THEODORAKIS, Mikis
b Khios, Greece, 29 July 1925
He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1954. On his return to Greece in 1959, he issued revolutionary criticism of the contemporary Greek arts, and as a result he was imprisoned in 1967 and his music banned. He was released in 1970.
His large output includes many oratorios, ballets, film scores and song cycles with pop orchestras, nearly all of them on Greek subjects.
