He was sent to the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt at the age of twelve, remaining there for eighteen months. He went back to Frankfurt in 1895, and became a member of the 'Frankfurt Group' with Grainger, Gardiner, O'Neill and Quilter. He finally returned to England in 1898, and from 1900 onward spent his life teaching, composing and writing. Unfortunately, many of his original MSS were destroyed during World War II. He wrote books on occultism, naturopathy, osteopathy and horn oeopathy, as well as several volumes of poetry, many unpublished plays and an autobiography (1924).
