SATIE, Erik

He entered the Paris Conservatory in 1879, staying for only a year because of his distaste for academic routine. He received much inspiration from religious mysticism, and disliked romanticism. He had a great deal of influence on Debussy, though Satie was the younger, and became the standard bearer of 'Les Six' (Honegger, Auric, Milhaud, Tailleferre, Durey and Poulenc), Satie was with them, though not of them. Aware of his technical shortcomings, in

1905 he enrolled in the Schola Cantorum to study with d'Indy and Roussel.
