GERMAN, (Sir) Edward (Edward German JONES)

d London, 11 November 1936, aged seventy-four
His father was a church organist, and he himself was sent to study at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1888 he became the musical director of the Globe Theatre and much of his interest was in theatre music. He was made a fellow of the Royal Academy in 1895, a member of the Philharmonic Society in 1901, and was knighted in 1928.
