CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO, Mario
b Florence, 3 April 1895
d Hollywood, 15 March 1968, aged seventy-two
He was a pupil of Pizzetti. During and after World War I he was associated with Casella's Societa Italiano di Musica Moderna. He made musical settings of all the songs from Shakespeare's plays- sometimes misunderstanding the text, and once even setting a stage direction! He was at his best in his early work, but later he wrote some excellent guitar music.
