Osmunda regalis – the Royal Fern

This is one of my favourite ferns and I recently spied our Charlecote gardener Matt moving one in a wheelbarrow. It can grow to a very big plant. It is happiest in bogs and the edge of streams. It is sometimes mistakenly called the Flowering Fern because it has spore-bearing fronds or pinnae that could be mistaken for flowers. It has been around since the Triassic period.
